My Italy road trip started in Milan, followed by Lake Como for a few days. Lake Como is absolutely beautiful, and I loved exploring the towns surrounding it. Since time was a bit limited for this trip, I decided to spend each day in a different town to get a full-feel of what this popular northern part of Italy has to offer.
While in Lake Como I explored 3 of the most beautiful Italian villages. I took a train from Milan to Como, the main city by the lake, and spent the day exploring the picturesque streets, eating gelato, pizza, and admiring the beautiful lake. This area of Lake Como has a lot to offer in terms of restaurants and shops. However, Como is not the best for lake views. Since it is a city, this area of the lake is a little more polluted, and not as pristine as the next 2 towns I explored on this trip.
For the second day I headed to the west-side of the lake to a small village called Menaggio. Menaggio is even more beautiful than Como. It has stunning views, cute water-front cafes, and the most amazing little streets I had seen thus far. Make sure to walk into the village for great hole-in-the-wall eateries and photo-ops.
To finish off the journey I took a ferry across the lake to Bellagio. Oh, Bellagio! If you have to pick only one town to visit in Lake Como, choose this one. What a beauty! This village is small, but so stunning. It is built upwards on a hill which makes the streets even more picturesque than the other towns. Can you tell I have a thing for picturesque streets? There are restaurants and shops lining both the lake and the steps up the village. Every restaurant looked delicious, but I recommend trying Bellagio Antico Pozzo. I came here for dinner, and they serve one mean lasagna!
